Itch.io Recommendations: 4 Free Games

On December 3rd of 2019, Spencer Hayes, who writes articles about games and curates games for itch.io, said that itch.io wasn't going to slack off from recommending games just because it was the end of the year(https://itch.io/blog/112817/itchio-recommends-tabletop-and-jam-games). Over the last 81 days, we've only had 4 articles, only 2 of them recommending games. I have decided that since itch.io isn't going to recommend their site's games, I will. Starting out this week, I will be recommending at least 3 games every week that are fresh and exciting. This week I will be looking over 4 free games from itch.io that really all exceeded my expectations in playtime and in quality.

Gunman and the witch:

It turns out that paradox interactive isn't the only company making interesting city-builders anymore, as I have recently been introduced to gunman and the witch, which has you playing as a sheriff in the wild west who also has the job of building your town. You have the ability to teleport, use mind control, and more, helping you out in the multiple shoot-outs you will be in. The city-building is decent, the shoot-outs are great, and the pixel art and music are fantastic. I would pay for this game at its current state, even if it is in beta, but we are all lucky enough to get this one for free. It seems to have a lot of content and I will definitely continue playing it.

Lost on an alien world:

Lost on an alien world is a roguelike shooter game where you play as an astronaut(I guess) who is, well, lost on an alien world. The core gameplay is really fun: Shooting enemies, getting coins, shooting crystals, and escaping the level when all the crystals have been destroyed. These frantic escapes are really fun, as multiple enemies spawn when as you are trying to escape, and it turns the game into a bullet-hell like experience. The boss is fun(there might be more, but I haven't been able to get past the second world), the game is juicy, and I loved the experience overall.

Iketsuki:

Iketsuki is an atmospheric ps1-styled walking sim with a creepy vibe. It describes it self as an atmospheric platformer, and that description is pretty dead on. Taking care of "fish" is the main gameplay, but it ends up to be a very interesting experience that should last you about 45 minutes.

Lazr

Lazr is a cyberpunk run and gun with vibrant neon graphics. The pixel art looks phenomenal for this game, and the soundtrack matches the pixel art. It describes itself as a "clothformer", as one of its biggest strengths is its realistic 2d cloth physics. I really liked this one, although it seems like you can only play it with a controller. If you have around 30 minutes, you should be able to get through this one, although I do suspect that the game will get bigger over time.
